Each client’s needs are different, and sessions are tailored accordingly to meet these needs. Dr Justin Olstein is an integrative therapist, but his approach is guided by the principles of psychodynamic and schema therapies.
Psychodynamic therapy explores subconscious processes (including defences) and past experiences to understand how they influence current feelings and behaviors, aiming for deep self-awareness and long-term change. Through the therapeutic relationship, clients gain insights into unresolved conflicts and deep-seated emotional issues that underpin difficulties in their lives.
Schema therapy aims to identify and change deeply ingrained, problematic patterns of thinking and behaviour (schemas) that develop during a client’s childhood, as a result of core needs having not been adequately met. The work involves repairing the default interpersonal modes that the schemas have given rise to, through a variety of experiential techniques.
Everyone’s therapeutic needs are different, so this will vary from client to client. Dr Justin Olstein offers both long-term therapy for those seeking to explore deep-seated concerns, and short-term therapy.
The amount of sessions is informed by the client’s individual needs and aspirations.
